Jeff Detar passed away on August 19, 2026, in Tarzana, California, following complications from congestive heart failure, kidney failure, and COPD. He was born on June 12, 1974, in Sacramento, California.
Jeff was a man who embraced life with enthusiasm, compassion, and an unwavering desire to help others. Known for his outgoing personality, he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone about almost anything. He was loud, passionate, and deeply invested in the people around him. His greatest joy came from encouraging others, offering support, and demonstrating the love of Jesus through his words and actions.
He had a wide range of interests and enjoyed following sprint car racing, watching food competition shows such as Guy's Grocery Games, Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, and Bar Rescue, as well as Ink Master and Street Outlaws. He also had a strong appreciation for the Second Amendment and found enjoyment in sharing his interests with family and friends.
Jeff devoted much of his life to serving others. He worked with the Dream Center Discipleship program from 2009 to 2014 and later with Tarzana Treatment Center from 2016 to 2025, where his compassion and personal experiences allowed him to make a meaningful impact on countless lives.
Among his proudest accomplishments was maintaining his sobriety from 2008 onward, a milestone that reflected his determination and strength. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and was working toward a master's degree, becoming the first in his family to attend graduate school. Another unexpected blessing in his life was marrying Jennifer in 2013, a chapter he had never anticipated but came to treasure deeply.
Jeff would want to be remembered for the way he showed the love of Jesus to others in tangible ways. He believed in lifting people up, encouraging them to become better versions of themselves, and leaving every person he encountered feeling seen, valued, and supported.
Jeff is lovingly survived by his wife, Jennifer Detar; his father and stepmother, Tom and Rita Detar; his mother, Susan Borders; his brother and sister-in-law, Jeremy and Tamara Detar; his sister, Brienne Detar; his nephews, Lincoln, Harrison, and Ethan Detar; his parents-in-law, Terry and Gayle Samples; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Chris and Jana Plant, and Chris and Allison Sikorowski; his nieces, Jacee, Jaelyn, and Joie Plant; his nephews, Elias, Brasen, and Jacob Sikorowski; along with many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Wayne Detar; his paternal grandparent, Janet Lee Pine; his maternal grandfather, Clarence Borders; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Kiepien; and his paternal uncle, Larry Detar.
Jeff will be cremated. The memorial will be Sept 26, 2026, around 2:00 pm at the Los Angeles Dream Center (2301 Bellevue Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90017).
