Robert Brian Johnston, 68, of Los Angeles, CA, passed away on June 26, 2025. Born on October 14, 1956, to Robert and Betty Johnston in Los Angeles, CA, Robert lived a life marked by deep connections, humor, and unwavering devotion to his community. Family was of paramount importance to Robert, and he poured his love into those he held dear.

Robert was a proud and lifelong sports fan, cheering passionately for the Kansas City Chiefs and the UCLA football and basketball teams. In his younger days, he could often be found playing football in the streets, a pastime that reflected his energy and joy for life.

For over 30 years, Robert worked at Ralph’s grocery store, where he brought his trademark warmth, quick wit, and thoughtful presence to both colleagues and customers. While Robert was known to be private at times, he was also a social butterfly—always ready to share a laugh, tell it like it is, and offer genuine encouragement. He had a special way of making people feel seen and valued.

Robert was more than just a neighbor; for over four decades in the same apartment complex, he became a pillar of the community. He acted as a father figure to many local kids, offering walks to school, guidance, and steady support. His generosity of spirit and commitment to those around him left a lasting mark on countless lives.

He is survived by his two sisters, Barbara Johnston and Beverly Johnston; nieces and nephews Nikki, Christopher, Jonathan, Terence, and Kevin; great-nephew Michael; great-nieces Melondie and Serenity; alongside a host of family, friends and neighbors especially Mysheka Ronquillo, who held a daughter’s place in his life and Lisa Amos, his best friend, that he loved and cherished.

Robert’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Calvary Life in Gardena, CA. The address is 19300 S. Vermont Avenue, Gardena, CA 90248, and the event will be held in its Overflow room. The family asks that guests arrive by 9:30 AM. Parking is available in front of the church and on the street.

Robert will be remembered for his humor, his belief in keeping your head up—regardless of what life sends your way—and his commitment to living life to its fullest.
