It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Lee McCulley Jr., lovingly known as Bobby, who departed this life on July 16, 2025, in Los Angeles, California. He was 42 years old.

Born on May 14, 1983, in Bridgeport, CT, Bobby was the eldest son of Brenda Elaine McCulley and Robert Lee McCulley Sr. He was the third oldest of five children. As a child, Bobby filled the lives of his siblings and cousins with laughter and adventure. He would strike up spontaneous games and lead playful mischief, creating joyful memories that still bring smiles today. He often attended church alongside his mother and siblings. His mother instilled in him a deep reverence for God at an early age, a spiritual foundation that shaped his heart and spirit.

In 1995, at the age of 12, Bobby moved to Long Beach, California, where he was lovingly raised by his aunt, Deborah Buckley. Bobby was exceptionally bright; he had a creative and vibrant soul. He excelled academically and found joy in expressing himself through music and writing. At Jordan High School in Long Beach, CA he served as both editor and contributor of Stylus Magazine. A gifted writer of poetry and songs, Bobby poured his heart into his work, crafting pieces that reflected his inner world with honesty and grace. He had a deep love of music, especially Mariah Carey, which brought him great joy.

Bobby went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in English from Los Angeles City College. Professionally, he dedicated many years of service to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as an Administrative Clerk. He loved the city of Los Angeles, where he proudly resided for the rest of his life.

He was a devoted brother and uncle, especially close with his sister Tamika and her children, Ayanna and Drew Jr., with whom he shared many special moments. He shared a passion for music with his brother Kevin and they would often bond over the artists and genres they both enjoyed. With his sister Crystal, he shared a love of games, together they played countless games of Monopoly, tag and any other games he’d come up with to make her laugh. He also adored his beloved cat, Rajah, who was his faithful companion for many years.

Bobby is predeceased by his mother, Brenda Elaine McCulley; grandfathers Jesse Cobb and Leon McCulley Sr.; and grandmother Elizabeth McCulley. He is survived by his father, Robert McCulley; sisters Tamika Fowlkes, Crystal Curry (Aaron), and Deborah Davis; brother Kevin McCulley, and grandmothers Marian McCulley and Catherine Cobb. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends that he loved and cherished.

Though Bobby’s time with us ended far too soon, his legacy remains in the laughter he inspired and the art he shared. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The memorial service for Robert McCulley Jr. (Bobby) will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1PM EST. The Repast will follow the memorial service. The location for both the memorial service and the repast is:
