Alyce Marie Tyree, 82, died peacefully in her home on the evening of Oct. 10, 2025, a few days after suffering a major medical emergency.
She was born Alyce Marie Scott on Oct. 7, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., to John S. and Mildred (Markham) Scott. Alyce was the second of their four children. The siblings also had an older brother, Rudy, from their father’s first marriage.
In early 1948, the Scott family moved to Janesville, Wis., where Alyce grew up and graduated from Janesville High School (now called Craig High School) in 1963.
Alyce was married briefly in the 1960s and had two sons: James and John Tyree. In 1971, she became a Jehovah’s Witness, and the religion remained important to her.
Alyce raised her sons in Janesville, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, Nev. But she always loved California most, and in 1988 she moved there for good. Except for a few years in Berkeley, Alyce primarily lived in the Los Angeles area, where she so loved the weather and beaches.
After moving frequently through most of her adult life, Alyce spent her last 14 years living at the South Bay Retirement Residence in Compton. She made a beautiful home there, surrounded by the artwork and flowers she always loved so much. Alyce also formed a California family of friends who loved and looked after her.
Other survivors include her sons James (and wife Kim) Tyree of Norman, OK, and John Tyree of Janesville, Wis.; granddaughters Taylor Tyree and Annika Peck and grandson Trevor Tyree, all of Norman, OK.; brother John (and wife Debi) Scott of Janesville, Wis., and sister Vicki Scott of Boulder City, Nevada. Alyce was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred Scott; her sister Sandra and her brother Rudy.
Mom will be missed.
