Douglas Haxton 72, of Orange County, California passed away peacefully on January 11th 2025. Doug was originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado and has led a colorful life. He spent time in Germany with his parents when he was a young child, then they moved to Houston, Tx where he spent the remainder of his youth defining the direction of his life. He met Gina, my mother when he was quite young and she was the love of his life, leading to me then marriage, and finally his biggest regret in his final years. He worked for the grocery stores for many years before he decided to move to California in 1981. He did struggle at first but he was always willing to work hard and get the job done right. After various jobs this eventually led to a position at the Orange County Water District where he thrived for years. John Souza, Danny and Sterling are some of the good friends he met here. He actually learned algebra from me during this period of his life so he could move up in his job position.
After this new found confidence in himself he decided to take the advice of one of his good friends Bruce Humprey (who married Doug’s Sister Judy for a time)and become a stock broker. He did the training, studied the material, and then found out he passed his test on Black Friday when the market crashed. After that I don’t think he was confident enough that he could support his family. He didn’t like that he could be responsible for someone losing everything they had in the market. So he returned to working for Orange County, this time for the sanitation district. His second wife Lorraine and he eventually divorced and he moved back to Texas for a while where he worked for his best friend Jim Cummings for many years at Meineke mufflers. He eventually ended up back in Orange County California. He started working for TRC, a company some of his friends from the Water district started to clean up ground water at service stations. During this time he met Sheryl and they spent many years together as a married couple in Fullerton and Lakewood.
Through Sheryl he met his Bestie from California Peter. He finished his work years dedicated to TRC. Retirement did not suit him however and he ended up moving to Oregon on his own where his friend Lee had retired. Eventually he moved back to California at my request and he lived in San Dimas, Ca in his final months. He had many friends and acquaintances throughout his life, too many to list.
He liked dancing, concerts and going to the bar. He liked a party(sometimes too hard), a good BBQ, or an event that brings people together. He loved to entertain. Playing pool and poker. Marlboro reds and Michelob. He was a hard partier when he was young, but never truly stopped enjoying life to the fullest. Whatever you do, don't forget about the cut off jean shorts.
He always thought that he should not have lived as long as he did, and I would remind him that Haxtons are a tough family, and he should expect many years to come. That went on for about 10 years. Sadly his day has come. He is at peace and lived his life his way to his final day smoking, drinking and bringing a smile to those he met along their way.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Marilyn Haxton and his sister Judy Haines and his nephew Brandon Humprey. He is survived by his brother Shawn Haxton, his sister Claudia Loving and her children Justin, Brittany, Cory, Kitchel and Shelbie, his niece Tara Haines and nephew Garrett Haines, his son, David Haxton with his wife Stacie and 3 grandchildren Tyler, Ian and Madilyn.
Please come and celebrate his life with us at David’s Home in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca on February 16th, 2026 between Noon and 6 P.M.
