Douglas Lee Farrell Jr. passed away on June 13, 2026, in Orange County, California, bringing an end to his suffering and finding peace. He was 59 years old.

Born on July 17, 1966, in Richmond, California, and a member of the graduating class of 1984, Doug remained a proud member of the Richmond community for most of his life.

Doug dedicated nearly 30 years of his life to working at the San Pablo Reservoir, affectionately referring to it as "That Dam Reservoir." He took great pride in his work maintaining and caring for the grounds, and the reservoir remained a significant part of his life for decades.

Fishing was Doug's greatest passion and favorite pastime. When he was not working, he could often be found with a fishing pole in hand, especially at an area of the reservoir that was later named "Farrell's Landing" in honor of Doug. He also enjoyed playing darts, watching NASCAR races, following the Oakland Raiders throughout their move to Las Vegas, playing basketball, feeding the neighborhood birds, and spending time watching comedy and horror movies. Doug loved dogs, board games, and trips to Reno.

Doug was reserved and shy by nature, but he always tried to make others laugh. He was a man of habit who appreciated routine and was known for being thoughtful, hardworking, and generous. He loved his family deeply and was always willing to help others, though he often found it difficult to accept help himself.

His greatest pride and joy were his daughter and grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them. He was also deeply devoted to his mother and greatly admired her strength and resilience. If asked about his greatest accomplishments, Doug may have mentioned the many mugs he earned in the "Whopper Club" or the opportunity to take a photo with Tony Stewart's race car. Above all, however, his family remained his proudest accomplishment.

Doug would want to be remembered for the tremendous love he had for his family.

Doug is survived by his mother, Diane Traverso; his daughter, Holly Farrell; his granddaughters, Leah Dunn and Ashley Farrell; and his grandson, Aiden McIntyre-Saloum.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Hilda Lawrence; his father, Douglas Lee Farrell; and his younger brother, Dennis Farrell.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to join in honoring Doug with a moment of silence at 7:17 p.m. on July 17th. Doug loved to say, "It's my birthday!" whenever he saw 7:17 on a clock, and his loved ones will carry on that tradition in his memory.

Doug will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
