Gary Charles Rock, born October 4, 1941, in Deerborn, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026 in his home in Riverside, CA.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Diane; his children, Michelle, Nicole & Husband JC, Jonathan, and Andrew; his grandchildren, Darren & wife CJ, Austin & wife Amberly, Cheyenne & husband Russell, Gage, Colton & wife Cassie, Dominic, and Tiana; and his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Zane Gary, Jackson, Owen, Mikey, Maiya, and Melanie. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry, Mike, and Daryl, and his sister, Sherry.

Gary was a man of many talents and a man who could build, fix, paint, create, and make just about anything with his own two hands. His strong work ethic was one of the many qualities that defined him. He retired as the maintenance supervisor at Mountain View School District, where he was deeply loved and respected by those who worked with him.

But Gary’s greatest work was never something he could put on a résumé. It was the life he built with and for his family.

He was a true people person who loved to joke around, tell a good story, and make those around him laugh. He was the kind of man people could count on, he was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter what someone needed or what it might cost him in time or effort. And, true to his name, a rock for his family.

Gary loved his fishing trips and working on his cars, especially his Model A. He especially loved visiting Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland, where he could enjoy a churro and do one of his favorite things—people watching. He was also always ready to go out for breakfast, and there was rarely a need for much convincing.

To his beloved wife, Diane, Gary was loving, patient, and devoted. He could never stand to see her cry. He was the kind of husband who would take her to the beach after a difficult day, show up with flowers simply because he wanted to make her smile, or build something she had her heart set on. His love was expressed not only in words, but in all the countless things he did to care for her.

To his children and grandchildren, Gary was so much more than a father and grandfather. He was a teacher, a guide, a protector, and someone who showed up. Rain or shine, no matter the time of day or how long the drive, Gary would be there for the major moments in their lives. His family could count on him.

They will remember the simple moments just as much as the big ones: the smell of early morning coffee brewing, the sound of the morning news coming on, and the gentle knocking that meant he was waking everyone up with donuts or pancakes. These ordinary moments became extraordinary memories because they were shared with him.

Gary’s faith was also a deeply important part of his life. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he remained devoted to his Bible studies and his faith throughout his life. No matter what challenges life placed before him, he continued to move forward.

Even in his final days, his faith remained strong. He took comfort in the hope that death was not the end, but a rest before the new journey to the new system promised by Jehovah.

Gary lived his life to the fullest. He kept pushing forward, even when he was told he couldn’t. He was determined, resilient, and a fighter until the very end, he leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Diane.

His family will carry Gary with them in everything he taught them, every story he told, every laugh they shared, and every act of kindness he gave so freely.

His hands may no longer be here to build, his voice may no longer be here to tell another story, and his footsteps may no longer walk beside his family—but the life he built will remain.

He was their rock.
