George A. Sumaylo, 76, passed away unexpectedly in the hospital due to kidney complications. He was born on July 12, 1949, in San Jose, California, to the late George Catian and Marcia Codog.
During high school in Point Loma, CA, the family moved to Pensacola, FL. George decided to return to California to finish high school and eventually settled in West Covina, where he fell in love with and married Eileen, “the girl next door.” They shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. George was a devoted husband, proud father, and adoring grandfather whose greatest joy was his family.
George is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; his son, Casey (wife: Amie); his daughter, Dedra (husband: Skip); and five cherished grandchildren: Sebastian, Bijoux, Claire, Deven, and Birdy. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Jeff, Brenda, Stacey, Rumalda, Kelly, Marquito, Francisco, Francine, and Tina (and his previously deceased siblings Nick and Nikka), along with many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
It was growing up in San Diego, CA, that he learned to love the ocean, beaches, skateboarding, fishing, surfing and sailing. San Diego beaches and oceans became the playground for his own growing family and grandchildren throughout his life. He was also an award-winning artist. He had a lifelong love of motorcycles, street bikes, dirt bikes, … gosh any bike; that he could ride. He also enjoyed playing tennis, challenging himself at the shooting range, and deep-sea fishing with his (deceased Father and Uncle) George Sr. and beloved Uncle Fred and his youngest brother, Captain Kelly in Mexico. Known for his great sense of humor, George loved teasing and playing jokes on the kids, like the “TICKLE BEE” and brought laughter to all who knew him.
Throughout his life, George worked in the trucking industry and as a photographer. He later continued his education and became a respiratory therapist, serving faithfully for 16 years before retiring in 2019 from West Anaheim Medical Center.
He was a member of Berachah Church and is in his Savior’s arms because of God’s promise of eternal life “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved”. This goodbye is only temporary, as we know that all who believe in Christ will be re-united in heaven. His laughter, kindness, adventurous spirit and unwavering love for his family will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace George Sumaylo, with love, your wife Leen.
