George Luis Ibañez, 66, of North Hills, California, passed away on August 30, 2026.
George was born on July 14, 1960, in Las Villas, Cuba, to the late Jorge Roman Ibañez and Zoraida Ibañez. His life would eventually bring him to the United States, a country he proudly served as a member of the United States Army.
George was the father of Roman Luis Ibañez and Rosanna Ibañez, and a grandfather to two grandchildren. He was also a beloved brother to Jesus Enrique Ibañez and Juan Francisco Ibañez.
Those who knew George will remember a man who genuinely loved people. He was charming and charismatic, kind and sensitive, with a lighthearted spirit that drew people to him. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially fishing, and treasured the companionship and conversations that came along with it.
George was not a man who wanted to carry resentment in his heart, nor was he vindictive. Like all of us, he had regrets. Among his deepest were the words left unspoken and the relationships he wished he had restored with people who remained close to his heart.
Near the end of his life, those feelings became especially important to him. In one of his final heartfelt conversations, George spoke through tears about his desire to reconnect with family members he had not seen for a long time. He wanted to make things right, to say the things he had not said, and to bring family together again. One of his hopes was beautifully simple and very much George: to gather everyone together for a fishing trip.
Perhaps that desire tells us something important about the man he was. Beneath the regrets and the passing of time was a heart that still loved, still remembered, and still longed for reconciliation.
George's life was not defined by perfection, but by his humanity—his warmth, his sensitivity, his laughter, his love of people, and a heart that, in the end, wanted to find its way back to those he loved.
He leaves behind his children, Roman and Rosanna; his two grandchildren; his brothers, Jesus and Juan; and family and friends who will remember his charm, his kindness, his lighthearted spirit, and the many moments they shared with him.
George will be deeply missed, but the love he carried in his heart—and his desire to bring those he loved back together—will remain part of his legacy.
May he rest in peace, with the waters calm, the lines cast, and those he loved forever close to his heart.
