Gerald Glenn Johnson, 75, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026. Born December 4, 1950, in Port Arthur, Texas, Gerald lived a life that was complex, extraordinary, entertaining, and at times deeply tragic—but always unmistakably his own.
Gerald is survived by his loving husband, Sami (AKA Abdul Alamri) ;his two children, Laurie and Josh; and his sisters Liz and Robin. Gerald loved the humanities and found particular joy in music, literature, theater, and philosophy. He possessed an immense and restless creativity, a deep appreciation for the beauty and absurdity of life, and a capacity to bring his own distinctive presence to everything he encountered.
Gerald was the star of every scene he entered. He could be magnetic, spirited, funny, provocative, and impossible to forget. He lived for life's joys and, through the many darknesses he faced, found ways to survive and overcome them. His was not always an easy life, nor was it a simple one. But through all of its chapters, Gerald retained his good nature and continued to share his warmth, creativity, and love with the people around him.
Gerald’s friends will remember how fully he lived: his passion for the arts, his love of ideas, his dramatic spirit, his humor, and the singular presence he brought into the lives of others.
Gerald shared his good nature until the very end. After a life of great joys and great sorrows, he has finally left this life behind to find peace. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
