Hubert H. Thigpen
Obituary

Hubert Harold Thigpen, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on June 23, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on March 29, 1935, in Riverside, Texas to Inez and Ed A. Thigpen. 

He grew up in Fostoria and graduated from Cleveland High School where he was a baseball player, football player and class president. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Sam Houston State University then had a 35-year career in Corpus Christi as a Research Chemist for Celanese where he developed and secured 11 patents for the company.  He was an accomplished amateur athlete and founding member of Asbury Methodist Church. After retirement, he moved back to East Texas where he was an active member of Point Blank Community Church and an active resident of Holiday Shores and Carriage Inn communities. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. 

Hubert is survived by sister Carole Blake (Lonnie), brother Bruce Thigpen, children Kim Thigpen, Deidre Jaworski, Trent Thigpen (Kristina), Dawn McCord (Trey), Russ Melvin (Linda), Ric Melvin (Jose), Andy Melvin (Cathy), Jennifer Swann (Eric), 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his mother Inez Thigpen, father Ed A. Thigpen, wife Martha Thigpen, siblings D'Allen Thigpen, Cecil Thomas, Mary Schomer, Eugene Thigpen, David Thigpen, and Bobby Thigpen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on August 8, 2026, at Point Blank Community Church, 432 Robinson Way, Point Blank, TX 77364.
