James E. Owens Jr. was born on November 10, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, to Catherine Washington and James Owens Sr. His mother later married Samuel C. Harrison, who lovingly raised James as his own son.

James served in the United States Army in 1978, attained the rank of E-2, and completed active duty for training with an honorable discharge. He later earned a degree in accounting from Los Angeles Southwest College. James worked alongside his father, Sam, at Mobil Oil and later as a carrier for a medical company. He loved computers, research, and learning.

James was preceded in death by Samuel C. Harrison, the father who raised him; his grandmother, Ruby Willis; his grandfathers, Bill Washington and Sam Willis; his uncle, James "Yam" Bias; and his cousin, Linda Miller.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marsha; his mother, Catherine Harrison; his sister, Lisa Green; his brother-in-law, Stephan L. Green Sr.; two nephews, Stephan L. Green Jr. and Samuel H. Green; two nieces, Ashley Green and Recce Green; six great-nephews and great-nieces; his aunt, Jearline Bias; his first cousins, LaJune, Kathy, and Robert; and a host of other family members.

James was a loving son, husband, stepfather, brother, and uncle. He will remain forever in our hearts.
