James Franklin LaRue, 65, passed away on May 24, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by his family.

Known affectionately as “Don Jimmy” or simply “Jimmy” to his closest friends, James was born in Jinotega, Nicaragua. He was the fifth of six children born to Garold LaRue Sr. and Mercedes Palacios LaRue.

James spent his formative years in Jinotega, where he developed the curiosity, resilience, and appreciation for people that would remain with him throughout his life. After graduating from Colegio La Salle in 1977, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, the hometown of his father, to pursue his education. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Texas Christian University in 1985.

Although his work and interests took him to many places around the world, Texas remained home. He built a life defined by strong relationships, a generous spirit, and an ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

James was preceded in death by his father, Garold M. LaRue Sr. (2011), and his mother, Mercedes Palacios LaRue (2023).

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Herrera; his children, Lauren, Nigel, Andre, and Ian; his stepchildren, Axel and Christopher; his siblings, extended family members, and many lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

James will be remembered for his kindness, wit, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He had a gift for conversation, a genuine interest in people, and a talent for making others feel welcome. Whether reconnecting with old friends, sharing stories, or introducing someone to a new restaurant, he approached life with warmth, humor, and enthusiasm.

Among family and friends, he was especially known for his ability to find exceptional hole-in-the-wall restaurants—places he proudly described as “cheap and good.” It was a simple phrase that reflected his appreciation for life’s authentic pleasures: good food, good company, and meaningful connections.

More than any accomplishment, James took pride in his family. His love, guidance, generosity, and sense of humor will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 7, 2026. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived.
