It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jared Dean Peterson, who courageously battled cancer until his passing on July 11, 2026, at Banner – University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He was surrounded by his loving family and extremely close friends.
Jared was born on January 25, 1985, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Dean Peterson and Teresa Gregerson Peterson. He was raised in central Iowa and graduated from Ogden High School before attending Iowa State University, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His education was interrupted by an extended deployment to Iraq while serving with the Iowa National Guard, a reflection of his dedication to serving his country.
After completing his degree, Jared built an outstanding career as a mechanical engineer. His talent, leadership, and determination ultimately led him to achieve one of his greatest professional goals, founding his own engineering consulting firm. He took tremendous pride in his business and the talented teams he led, celebrating their successes as shared accomplishments.
Jared made his home in Phoenix, Arizona, where he built a life centered on family, friendship, and adventure. Through his 41 years, he touched countless lives with his intelligence, quiet wisdom, quick wit, and generous spirit. He was the kind of person people sought out for advice, encouragement, or simply to share a laugh.
Above all else, Jared was devoted to his family. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Brittany and a proud father to Wyatt and Wesley. He enthusiastically supported his sons' love of playing hockey and encouraged Wyatt's passion for playing rock guitar. Some of his happiest moments were spent traveling with his family, relaxing by the pool, exploring the Arizona desert, and creating new projects to tackle with Brittany.
Jared also embraced life through the friendships he cultivated and the hobbies he loved. He enjoyed sharing his appreciation and knowledge of fine bourbon and whiskey, annual spring motorcycle rides with his father and friends, building intricate LEGO sets, enjoying premium cigars, and creating memories with those he loved most.
Jared is survived by his wife and best friend, Brittany Peterson; his beloved sons, Wyatt (13) and Wesley (10); his father, Dean (Sally) Peterson; his mother, Teresa Gregerson; his brothers, Justin (Kaity) Peterson and Dillon (Kaitlyn) Gregerson; his cherished nieces and nephews, Meya, Peyton, Elizabeth, and William; and his grandparents, Larry and Betty Gregerson. He also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, colleagues, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Though his time with us was far too short, Jared's legacy lives on through the love he gave, the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, the lives he mentored, and the example of strength, courage, and perseverance he demonstrated throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held in both Phoenix, Arizona, and central Iowa. Times and locations will be announced at a later date.
The Peterson family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Jared will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
