Hello, reader. I would personally like to thank you for taking the time to read the biography about my mother, Joan C. Smith, who passed away on September 25, 2025. As I am typing this, I have been wrestling back and forth on what exactly to write.
"Should I take the more conventional route? Format this program to look like the hundreds of programs I've seen, would she like that?"
And, even though my mother was a woman of strategy, always striving towards perfection, a deep thinker who was an overachiever, I can hear her saying "Keisha, do what you think is best! Just don't wear a shower cap and house shoes while speaking at my memorial, girl! I taught you better than that."
Joan was born in Kingston, Jamaica on November 27, 1946. To mother Tamer Rebecca Wallace, Siblings: Gloria James, Victoria James and six additional brothers and sisters on her father’s side.
Highly educated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters degrees even receiving her Doctoral Degree in subjects from Business Administration to Business Management to Biblical Studies, Theology & Eschatology.
Not only was she a wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, but she was an amazing friend, phenomenal prayer warrior and devoted Christian. Joan utilized her gifts from the Lord, to not only be the hands and feet of Jesus, but to be the echo of prayers for those she loved and served in her community.
Joan loved the Lord with all of her heart, mind and soul. She poured all of herself into church, her family, in ministry, and praying for others in the midst of their suffering. Her household was the cross that Christ commanded her to carry until the Lord called her Home. Now she is able to lay her cross down to only be welcomed by her Heavenly Father with His arms wide open. "Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Joan was survived by her husband Leeroy Smith, children & granddaughter, Greg Smith & Greg's daughter Sierra Jessica Hernandez Smith, and daughter Keisha Smith, and brother Victor James;Nieces and Grandnieces, Sharya Elliott, Darya Elliott, Welth, Andrea Scott, and her husband and son Josh and Josiah Scott. Joan was also survived by all of her brothers and sisters in Christ. Family, friends, loved ones and to all who knew and loved her most all who are now connected by the precious Blood of Jesus.”
