Jonathan Chapin
Obituary

Jonathan Chapin died Monday, July 20, 2026 in Pasadena, California. Immediate family member survivors include sister, Laura Silberman; Brother-in-law, Barry Silberman; Niece, Mallory Silberman Castellano, and Nephew, Jordan Silberman. 

Jonathan filled his life with acting beginning in elementary school, as a student at American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Northwestern University, and professionally in Los Angeles, Ca. He appeared in many television series, tv commercials and movies. Most notable roles included Halloween 5, Sixteen Candles, Say Anything, Risky Business, and St. Elsewhere. 

With a custom carpentry business, Jonathan focused his creative talents on building furniture and house renovations. 

Throughout his life, Jonathan cared for several rescue dogs and volunteered with the Best Friends organization. 

Those who knew Jonathan, remember his kind heart, impish smile, and willingness to help others.

This poem was read at our mother Isolde Chapin’s funeral and seems fitting here as well:

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze,
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch her until she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: “There! She’s gone!”
Gone where? 

Gone from my sight – that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side,
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of her destination.
Her diminished size is in me, and not in her.

And just at the moment
when someone at my side says: “There! She’s gone!”
there are other eyes that are watching for her coming;
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:
“Here she comes!”

And that is dying…
