With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Dr. Jorge A. Mendoza Sr., who entered eternal rest on September 13, 2026, in Sugar Land, Texas, just weeks before his 78th birthday.

Born on September 30, 1948, in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Jorge was the eldest child of Aurelio Mendoza and Gertrudis Martinez Mendoza. He spent much of his life in the city he loved before later making his home in Sugar Land and Missouri City, Texas, where he continued to be surrounded by the love of his family.

Jorge was a respected Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician, a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. While he achieved much throughout his life, his greatest pride and accomplishment was always his family.

He shared a beautiful and enduring marriage of fifty-four years with his beloved wife, Ivin Mendoza. Together they exemplified true companionship and unwavering devotion. They were inseparable, sharing not only a marriage but a friendship that spanned a lifetime. Their mothers, Gertrudis and María Eugenia, were dear friends, and that friendship continued after they married and started their own families. As a result, Jorge and Ivin grew up together, surrounded by the love and friendship shared between their families. After a six-year courtship, they married and built a life together founded on love, friendship, and mutual respect.

Whether attending family gatherings, enjoying everyday moments, or dancing together, Jorge and Ivin were truly partners in every sense of the word. His love for her was evident in everything he did, and he dedicated his life to her happiness, comfort, and well-being.

Jorge was a proud and devoted father to his three children: Ivin Lilian Mendoza Valencia, Lorena Almendariz, and Dr. Jorge A. Mendoza Jr.

As a father, Jorge was a constant source of strength, guidance, and support to his oldest daughter, Ivin Lilian, he provided the best educational opportunities, unwavering protection, encouragement, and love throughout her life. He celebrated her accomplishments; cherished her deeply and extended that same love and devotion to her daughters and granddaughters.

To his eldest daughter Ivin Lilian, he passed on a love for God and the values that defined his life: strength, compassion, responsibility, dedication, and perseverance. She will forever cherish his wisdom, his unwavering support, and the example he set through his devotion to family and his belief that family should always remain close and united.

To his daughter Lorena, Jorge gave the gift of education, opportunity, and unconditional support. He celebrated her achievements, encouraged her dreams, and stood beside her through every stage of life. He often reminded her of how intelligent, capable, and resilient she was. Through life's challenges and hardships, he encouraged her to persevere and never lose sight of her purpose. In later years, Jorge and his wife moved to Texas at the invitation of Lorena and her husband, Manuel E. Almendariz III, who wanted them nearby so they could enjoy more precious years together. Manuel also loved and cared for him deeply. They established their home only a few miles away, remained closely connected, celebrating milestones, sharing everyday moments, and supporting one another without hesitation. Jorge was immensely proud of the woman Lorena became and the life she built; and loved his son in law very much. Neither of Jorge Sr. and his daughter Lorena could have imagined that after pursuing a different career path, she would eventually find herself working with children with special needs, a population he loved and served with all his heart. For the last ten years of his life, they shared not only a father-daughter bond, but also a common profession and mission. They attended trainings together, exchanged ideas, and spent countless hours talking about the joy that comes from helping children discover their potential. Some of Lorena’s treasured memories are the meaningful conversations they shared about the impact they hoped to make in the lives of these children and the importance of treating every child with dignity, patience, and love.

His daughter Lorena is forever grateful that she had the privilege of learning from him both as her father and as a fellow professional. One of God's greatest gifts was allowing them to walk a similar path, serving others side by side. He was able to witness the fulfillment of seeing his legacy continue, and she will carry forward the values, compassion, and commitment to service that he so beautifully embodied throughout his life.

To his youngest child and only son, Dr. Jorge A. Mendoza Jr., Jorge passed on not only his values and work ethic but also his profession. Both father and son shared the distinction of being physicians, a bond that brought Jorge tremendous pride. He worked tirelessly to provide Jorge Jr. with the finest education and opportunities, supporting him through every challenge and triumph. He would also love spending time with his son and daughter-in-law Yessica Salas- Mendoza, every opportunity they had. Jorge Jr.'s accomplishments brought him great joy and satisfaction. He was not only his father, but most importantly his role model and best friend.

His kindness, compassion, dedication, and calling to care for others inspired in his son Jorge, the desire to follow in his footsteps and pursue a career in medicine. He is forever grateful that he had the opportunity to witness not only the physician he was, but also the extraordinary man he became. His son was blessed to see firsthand the love, respect, and gratitude of the many people whose lives he touched, a reflection of all the goodness he sowed throughout his life.

A proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Jorge delighted in watching his family grow through the generations. He is survived by his granddaughters Liliana Cruz-Muniz and Adriana Cruz, and lovingly remembered by his granddaughter Gina Cruz Mendoza, and grandson Jorgito III Mendoza Salas who preceded him in death. Jorge  was especially proud of his role as great-grandfather to Bianca Muniz and Emma Muniz, daughters of Liliana and her husband, Ramon Muniz.

Jorge is also survived by his siblings Eduardo Mendoza, Martha Scott, Sergio Mendoza, and Ana M. Mendoza. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pilar Mendoza-Gomez. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family, including his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Juanita Valencia, Leticia Valencia, Silvia Valencia-Alvarado, Merus Valencia, Ernesto Valencia, Lupita Valencia, and Veronica Valencia-Rivera, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

Those who knew Jorge will remember a man of integrity, generosity, intelligence, dedication, and immense love. He worked hard, sacrificed himself for his family, and dedicated his life to ensuring that those he loved had every opportunity to succeed. He was a provider, protector, mentor, and role model whose impact will continue to be felt for generations.

Through hard work, dedication, courage, and perseverance, he achieved his dreams and built a life devoted to serving others. He had a true calling for both his profession and his patients, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to his work as a PMR physician for 35 years. Respected and deeply loved by his colleagues and patients alike, he approached every person with sensitivity, compassion, and an unwavering passion for what he did. The satisfaction he felt in helping his patients overcome challenges could be seen in everything he did. He was widely admired for his kindness, gentleness, integrity, and genuine concern for others. His noble character and compassionate spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy of care, dignity, and service will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.

The impact of his life continues to be felt by all who knew him also as a Special Education Aide in the FLaSH Unit for these last 15 years. Even today, there are children who still look toward the classroom door expecting to see him walk in, a testament to the extraordinary love, encouragement, and dedication he shared with those in his care.

He was a man of deep faith whose beliefs guided him throughout his life. He was a devoted member of the Disciples of St. John and the Legion of Mary, dedicating himself to serving both his church and his community. Known for his generous spirit and commitment to helping others, he also served as a member of Lions Clubs International for 15 years, leaving a lasting impact through his altruism, compassion, and service. He lived his beliefs through prayer, service, and love for others.

One of life's greatest gifts was the opportunity he had to return to his hometown and reconnect with family, friends, former colleagues, and members of the community who held him in such high regard. Unaware that it would be the last time he would see many of them, he was surrounded by an outpouring of love, gratitude, and affection. It was a beautiful reminder of the countless lives he had touched through his kindness, compassion, and selfless service. In those moments, he witnessed the harvest of the seeds he had faithfully sown throughout his life.

Although our hearts ache in his absence, we take comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind: the laughter shared around family tables, the celebrations, the dances with his beloved wife, the wisdom he imparted, and the unconditional love he gave so freely.

Dr. Jorge A. Mendoza Sr.'s legacy lives on through his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and devotion.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
