Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Lee Ernst, who departed this life on July 21, 2026 at the age of 32.

Kevin was born in 1994 and born in the hearts of Ron, Laura, and the Ernst family in 2000. A true little brother from the start, he quickly and easily became part of the family through smiles, pranks, jokes, and laughs. We can’t imagine our family without him. Kevin’s empathetic heart drove his relationships.  He had a great laugh and gave great hugs.

One of six children, Kevin taught his parents and siblings just as much as they taught him. The mutual learning and gift of understanding changed our family for the better, and our ongoing love for Kevin will drive our ongoing love and support for all families and children, especially those in the adoption community. Loving, unconditional support matters.  Kevin loved his family and friends, and his tattoos, with his first two pieces highlighting his chosen last name (Ernst) and a quote that was important to him (Family. They are always there for you, through thick and thin. They know you like no one else. Family is a bridge across generations. They are the keepers of precious memories and traditions. Family means and is love.). His kind heart and gentle soul were unmatched.

Kevin graduated from Holt High School, where he wrestled, played football, developed strong friendships, and made many cherished memories. He went on to work in multiple industries before moving from St. Louis to California on a journey of discovery where he fostered his love of animals, fishing, cooking, and the sea.

We will miss Kevin’s smile, inquisitive spirit, joyful laugh, and all the inside jokes and experiences we wish he was still here to enjoy with us. May all those Kevin touched be a little more thoughtful, empathetic, kind and understanding because we knew him.

Kevin is survived by his parents, Ron and Laura Ernst, his siblings, nieces and nephews, and many extended family members and friends.
