Larney Lewis Sager, age 72, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026 with his devoted life partner, Scott Calvin, by his side.
Born on November 8, 1953 in Hartford, CT, Larney was the son of Sol and Marilee Sager of New Haven, CT. Larney attended Hillhouse High School class of 1971. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in California. He earned, and was awarded a Rifle Expert Badge and a National Defense Service Medal.
Larney shared a beautiful life with his partner, Scott. After meeting in Nashville, TN in 1982, they moved to Los Angeles, CA where they shared a life together built on a foundation of a deep, undeniable love, mutual respect, and unconditional support. Larney’s gentle spirit, warm humor, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him.
Larney was passionate about classic black & white movies, and was an avid comic book collector. He lived a life defined by gentleness, kindness, and a love for people and animals. Larney had a profound connection with the hummingbirds who frequented his yard. He fed them so regularly, and with such patience that they grew to trust him completely, famously swirling around his head as he refilled their feeders. He always found peace and joy in the simpler pleasures of life.
Larney is survived by his lifelong partner, Scott Andrew Calvin of Los Angeles, CA, and his sister, Gwen Sager of Hamden, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Marilee (Lewis) Sager of Hamden, CT, and his uncle and aunt, Benjamin and Lillian (Lewis) Glazer of Hamden, CT.
Larney’s remains will reside in the California home he loved so much, where he was the happiest, and surrounded by the love he cherished.
A celebration of life will be held on a later date to be announced.
