Mark Steven Severance, aged 72, passed away unexpectedly on May 19, 2026, in Riverside, CA. Born on May 14, 1954, Mark lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a spirited sense of humor that left an indelible impression on everyone he met.

Mark graduated from Mayfair High School where his anticipated basketball career was cut short due to a devitalizing knee injury. He furthered his education at Long Beach City College. Discovering his love of coaching youth basketball and baseball teams later led him to his own involvement in playing softball with his friends.

Eventually he embarked on a notable career at Northrop Grumman, where he retired as a Manager after 43 years of commendable service. During this time he was married for 11 yrs and divorced childfree. Beyond his professional life, Mark was a dedicated and respected Commander of District 21 for the Sons of the American Legion for many years where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to veterans, their families and his community.

A man of many interests, Mark cherished the time spent with friends and family. He was an avid fisherman, a competitive pool player, a karaoke enthusiast, and a celebrated chili cook-off champion. His love of whiskey was only matched by the joy he found in being a master storyteller.

Mark was a beloved son to his father, Lyle Severance, and a cherished brother to David Severance and Lisa Agor. He was preceded in death by his mother, Verlyn Severance, and his brother, Greg Severance.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 289, located at 4151 Buchanan St, Riverside, CA 92503. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 289 in honor of Mark's memory and his commitment to veteran affairs.

Mark Severance will be remembered as a warmhearted, fun-loving individual who was both self-assured and delightfully witty. His unforgettable presence will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
