Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Martha Licano on August 17, 2026. Born in Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, Martha passed away in Whittier, California, after a long life filled with faith, family, friendship, and love.

Martha was known for her warm and welcoming spirit. She was friendly, funny, hardworking, adventurous, and fiercely independent. Her affectionate nature and generous heart made everyone feel at home. A devoted servant to her church, she found great joy in caring for others and building lasting relationships with the many family members and friends who loved her dearly.

She enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening, crocheting, and spending time with the people she loved most. Whether preparing meals for large church gatherings, family celebrations, or friends, Martha found happiness in bringing people together around her table. She also took great pride in her beautiful home and garden, which reflected the care and dedication she put into everything she did.

Professionally, Martha worked as a passementier, designing and creating decorative trimmings with skill and craftsmanship.

Among her greatest accomplishments were her home, her garden, the meals she lovingly prepared for church, family, and friends, and, above all, her son, grandchildren, and great-grandson. Her family remained the center of her life and her greatest source of pride.

Martha would want to be remembered for her independence, her unwavering faith, her large and loving family, her many cherished friendships, and the love she shared so generously with everyone around her.

She is lovingly survived by her son, Jess Licano; her grandchildren, Jess, Eric, and Jennifer; and her great-grandson, August.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Epiphany Catholic Church, 10911 Michael Hunt, South El Monte.

Martha lived a long and full life surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly. Her kindness, strong faith, generous spirit, and joyful presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
