Narciso Yap, 82, passed away on August 24, 2025, in Los Alamitos, California, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born on April 6, 1943, in Iloilo City, Iloilo Province, Philippines.
Narciso was thoughtful, smart, understanding, funny, and forgiving. He listened carefully, offered wise counsel, and loved to laugh. He enjoyed music, sports, reading, gardening, grilling, and spending time with family and friends. Church service was a central part of his life. He served as a church treasurer for 11 years at the Church of God Seventh Day in Ontario, California.
A graduate of the University of Saint Augustine in Iloilo, he was proud to receive a Loyalty Award for attending the school from kindergarten through his undergraduate degree. He worked as an accountant for Belgor Investment in Manila, Philippines, and later retired as a parts coordinator from Robinson Helicopter in Torrance, California.
Narciso found great happiness tending his home garden alongside his beloved wife, Marilou, at their home in Norwalk, California, which they purchased in 1985 and where they raised their daughter, Rizza. Marilou remembers him as “the most generous, nice, loving, understanding, and forgiving person I know.”
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilou Yap; his sister Mercedes (Nelson) Divinagracia; his grandsons, Jordan (Christopher) Guild and Julian Barnes; and his son-in-law, Marcus (Vanessa) Barnes. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Rizza Barnes née Yap in 2016 and his brother Jose Yap Jr. in 2020.
A Garden Memorial Service with a repast to follow will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at 14633 Wheatstone Avenue, Norwalk, California.
