Richard Loren Blakeslee, beloved father, grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend, passed away at the age of 80, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love, loyalty, and kindness.
Richard was born to Glenn and Helen Blakeslee and grew up alongside his siblings, Harold "Redd" Blakeslee and Jenny Lee Blakeslee. He is now reunited in Heaven with his parents and his beloved brother, Redd.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief and gunman. His service reflected the courage, dedication, and strength that would define the rest of his life.
Before military service, Richard loved baseball and was a talented pitcher until an arm injury ended his playing days. Throughout his life, he maintained a love of sports, especially baseball, and enjoyed spending his time golfing, bowling, bike riding, and playing his favorite card game, Gin Rummy.
Richard spent more than 40 years working in retail, where his natural ability to connect with people earned him, a wife, countless friendships and the respect of coworkers and customers alike. He never met a stranger for long.
Though Idaho always held a special place in his heart, he eventually moved to Washington to be closer to family—a decision that reflected what mattered most to him throughout his life: the people he loved.
Richard was the proud father of Joseph Blakeslee and Jennifer Blakeslee. He also lovingly considered his son-in-law, Kenneth, to be a son. His greatest joy was being "Grandpa" or "Papa" to his three cherished grandchildren: Haidyn, Blakeslee, and Holden.
Those who knew Richard will remember his warm smile, kind eyes, quick wit, and stubborn determination. He was funny, compassionate, generous, and fiercely loyal. He loved unconditionally and gave freely of his time, wisdom, and heart. He was the kind of man who could make friends anywhere and leave people better than he found them.
Above all else, Richard was a devoted father and grandfather. His family was his greatest pride and his deepest joy. His love was steady, unwavering, and unconditional—a gift that will continue to guide those who loved him for the rest of their lives.
Richard leaves behind his children, Joseph and Jennifer; his son-in-law Kenneth; his sister, Jenny Lee Blakeslee; his grandchildren, Haidyn, Blakeslee, and Holden; extended family; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his family takes comfort in knowing that his love, laughter, and example will live on in the lives of those he touched.
He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
