Obituary

Stanley Arthur Halverson, Sr. was born on July 28, 1937, in Minnesota, and passed away on September 16, 2026, in Palm Springs, California, after a battle with prostate cancer.

Stanley had a very strong faith since early childhood. He was an altar boy in the Lutheran church, sang in the choir, and volunteered on church committees as needed. His morning devotionals included prayers for his family, friends, our country and the world at large.

Stanley was most passionate about his family. His free time was spent camping, attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, and playing tennis with his wife, Janet, and friends.

While raising a family with Janet during the 1960s and 1970s, Stanley worked as a manager for Hanson House Music, a music publishing company serving retail music stores and college campuses throughout the United States. In the 1980s, Stanley and Janet purchased Marin Music Center in Novato, California. Together, they served local schools with instrument rentals for band classes and private music lessons, while also operating a local store offering pianos, guitars, brass instruments, and other music-related products.

Stanley was stoic and dependable. He was the friend who owned a truck and loaned it to his neighbors and friends, often helping with the labor as well. He enjoyed conversations that went deeper than the surface and would often add a joke when least expected. Stanley could spark a conversation with any stranger. He was naturally kind and gentle and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Stanley enjoyed traveling with Janet throughout their more than 66 years of marriage. Together, they camped across the United States and often traveled to Minnesota with their four children to visit extended family. Exploring Europe and Africa was also part of their journey. At home, Stanley enjoyed gardening, barbecuing, and entertaining family and friends.

Stanley wanted to be remembered as a man who was “living the dream.” He married Janet, the love of his life, in February 1960, just six months after they met. Together, they created a beautiful family and their Halverson legacy.

Stanley is survived by his brother, William; his wife, Janet; his four children, Stanley Jr., Laurie, Mark, and Julie; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a bun-in-the-oven.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter; his father, Arthur William; his mother, Clara; and most recently, his sister, Marge.

Stanley's Celebration of Life is planned for February 13, 2027, at Palm Springs Presbyterian Church.
