Stella Gurule, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in Los Angeles, California. She was 89 years old.
Stella was born on July 5, 1936, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Over her 89 years, she touched countless lives with her love, kindness, and strength. She dedicated over 50 years to the hospitality industry, where her warmth and work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and guests alike.
Stella’s greatest joy and achievement was her family. She is survived by her children: Irene Ferguson and her husband Tom, Frank Gurule and his late wife Ina Pacheco, and Susie Gurule and her husband Frankie Peña. She was a proud grandmother to Rick (Yolanda), Laura (Adrian), Tommy (Veronica), Joe, Jay, Gina, Suzette, Frankie, Tillie, the late Chris, and Chris Sandoval (Angela); and her sister Viola DeHerrera.
She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren: Ricky, Jasmine, Sophia, Logan, Eli, Alize, Hazel, Tommy Jr., Roman, Ethan, Ariana, Angel, Natasha, Estrella, Previn, Isaac, Dwayne, Chris Jr., and Ariel — and cherished great-great-grandchildren: Angel Lynn, Jeremiah, Xeaden and Evany
She is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, whose lives she touched with the same warmth, humor, and compassion she gave so freely to all.
Stella had a deep faith and was devoted to praying the rosary daily, always keeping her family in her prayers. She believed fiercely in the power of love and prayer and would move mountains for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed working on puzzles, cheering on her favorite teams — the Dodgers and the San Francisco 49ers — and watching her favorite TV shows.
Stella will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her unwavering love, and the legacy of family she leaves behind. Her presence was a gift, and she will be missed beyond measure.
