Obituary

Thomas Frank Storey, 84, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sally Jean Storey; his six children, Ted, Todd, Heidi, Timothy, Jonathan, and Sarah; his four grandchildren, Tarren, Ella, Hannah, and Zoey; and his five siblings, John, Susan, Jamie, Brian, and Peter.

Thomas was born on March 1, 1942, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Margaret “Peg” Cottrell Storey (nee McBeath) and Donald William Green Storey. He was the oldest of six, and grew up in the maritime provinces, Moncton & Shediac. Thomas’s early years were shaped by his family, education, athletics, as well as his father’s love of sailing—a tradition he would later pass on to his own children.

In high school, he was captain of the varsity rugby and basketball teams, traveled to Europe as a Scout, and competed as a sailor in world class events.

His college endeavors started at Mount Allison, where he took a General Engineering Program. There he was captain of both the varsity football and basketball teams and in his senior year, Athlete of the Year. The following year he moved to the Nova Scotia Technical College and finished with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering.

In 1965 he got married to his wife, Sally, and shortly thereafter moved to Hawaii where they welcomed their first child. While in Hawaii, he attended the University of Hawaii on a teaching fellowship and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Later, he went on and earned an MBA from Pace University in New York City through an AT&T-sponsored executive education program. His curiosity and love of learning continued throughout his life.

Thomas went on to build a lifelong career with Fortune 100 technology companies (including Bell Labs and AT&T), working on complex systems. He was intelligent and a deep thinker—always inquisitive, logical, hardworking and honest. He was especially proud of the years he devoted to mentoring and teaching others.

But Thomas’s greatest accomplishment was his family.

He was a devoted family man including a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. Thomas and his beloved wife, Sally, built a life centered around family, love and adventure. They lived all over North America including Canada, Hawaii, Atlanta, Illinois, Colorado, New Jersey and California.

Thomas dedicated himself to his children and was there for them every step of the way, from childhood through adulthood. When faced with a challenge, he was determined to find a way forward and solve any problem. He encouraged his children to pursue their education, work hard, and always strive to improve themselves.

Some of the family’s most cherished memories came from summers spent together at their cottage in Shediac, Canada. Thomas continued the sailing tradition that his own father, Donald, had instilled in him, by enrolling his six children in sailing school each summer creating memories that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Thomas loved working in the yard, fixing things around the house and garage, and figuring out how things worked. He also appreciated simple pleasures in life: fresh seafood—especially lobster—an “out of sight” dessert, music, and quality time with Sally, their children and grandchildren.

As those who loved him say goodbye they will carry with them the lessons he taught, the memories of the summers on the water, the wisdom he so often shared, the example of his hard work and dedication, the lobster dinners, and above all, the unwavering love and support he gave his family.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
