Wallace Reedell Light, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 31, 2026. He was born on November 13, 1955, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Wallace and Lorene Light. A lifelong resident of Mineral Wells, Wallace dedicated his life to serving his community and the people of Palo Pinto County.
Wallace proudly served Palo Pinto County for 26 years in law enforcement. His career began in March of 1998 when he joined the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office as a Jailer. Determined to continue serving in a greater capacity, he put himself through the night Police Academy at Weatherford College in 1999 and began his career as a patrol deputy in October of that year.
Throughout his years with the Sheriff’s Office, Wallace served in many roles, including Lieutenant in the Jail Division, Patrol Deputy, and Investigator for the Palo Pinto County Attorney’s Office. He retired from the Sheriff’s Department in 2020 as the County Attorney Investigator.
His passion for serving others continued after retirement. In May of 2021, Wallace joined the Mineral Wells Police Department part time as a Bailiff, a position he held until January of 2022. In December of 2022, he returned to the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Department, working part time as security at the County Annex Building and the Palo Pinto County Courthouse. He remained dedicated to his community until his second retirement in April of 2026, when declining health due to cancer led him to step away from service.
In May of 1976, Wallace met the love of his life, Francis Suzanne Light. The two were married on May 13, 1977, beginning a loving marriage that lasted nearly five decades. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a lifetime of memories. Wallace is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne; his son, Wallace Reedell Light, Jr. (Dell); and his daughter, Christy Nichole Light. His four grandchildren—Payton Light, Jaden Godwin, Wyatt Godwin, and Khloe Light—held a special place in his heart. Beyond his love for his wife, his children and grandchildren were truly his world.
Wallace is also survived by his sister, Louann Henry, and her husband, Butch Henry; his brother, Windell Light, and his wife, Barbie Light; nephews Bryan Henry and wife Carrie Henry, Brandon Henry, Michael Light, and Josh Light; and nieces Shannon Hart and husband Brett Hart, and Randa Light. He leaves behind countless great-nephews, a great-niece, cousins, bonus daycare grandchildren, lifelong friends, and a large law enforcement family who will forever remember his dedication, loyalty, and service.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Lorene Light.
A celebration of Wallace’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 5th, 2026, at the First Baptist Church located at 100 SW 4th Ave, Mineral Wells, Texas.
Wallace’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the community he protected, and the family who loved him deeply. His service, kindness, and commitment to others will never be forgotten.
