It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hans Lutter, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on November 30, 2024, in Long Beach, California. Hans was a man of unwavering kindness, boundless generosity, and an enduring love for his family, animals, and all living things.
Born on August 21, 1940, in Surabaya, Indonesia, Hans grew up with a spirit of compassion and a deep sense of connection to the world around him. Whether it was his devotion to his children and grandchildren or his habit of helping anyone in need, he lived a life of purpose and service. Hans would give his last dollar to help someone, and his heart ached for those less fortunate.
Hans was known for his magnetic personality. He had a way of making friends wherever he went, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime. With a warm smile and a quick wit, he brought joy to everyone he met. He loved sharing meals, shopping at his favorite stores, and joking with his grandchildren. He delighted in telling stories about their childhood, reliving cherished memories of their time together.
He had a unique talent for nurturing plants, earning a reputation for his "green thumb." His indoor garden was a testament to his care and dedication, bringing life and beauty to his home. His family often joked that their own plants would "cheer" when he visited, knowing "Opa" would revive them with his touch.
Above all, Hans was proudest of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Lisa (John), Sascha (JB), and Chelsea (Dillon); his sons Edgar (Corinne) and Kyle (Crista); and his grandchildren Jacob, Nikolas, Hannah, and Nolan.
Preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Lutter, Hans leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith. He was a man who loved deeply, cared unconditionally, and always put others before himself. His faith in God was unwavering, and he lived his life as a testament to that faith.
In his memory, the family suggests donations to organizations close to his heart: Shriners Hospital for Children, ASPCA, or charities supporting the homeless.
Dad/Opa, you have left an irreplaceable hole in our hearts. Your love, laughter, and compassion will be missed more than words can express. Sweet dreams, and rest in peace. We will love you forever.
