Joan Elizabeth Winters Obituary

Joan was an Earth Angel. I loved her and was blessed to know her for about 43 years.

She was born and raised in West Los Angeles. Attended Richland Avenue elementary, Webster Junior High, and University High School. She earned her AA degree from Santa Monica College (SMC). She studied journalism among several other interests. Joan and I loved to help take care of our MOTHER EARTH. Gardening took up a lot of her time. She evolved into my favorite cook ever! She volunteered at UCLA. Joan had a very fulfilling life. Both Joan and I were avid political activist often having our Los Angeles City Council representative introduce us as “joined at the hip”.

Joan battled cancer twice; she was so strong that after her hysterectomy, she insisted on climbing the many steps at the Church of Ocean Park to attend my brother Jerry’s New Year’s peace events.

‍

The second bout with a more deadly prognosis, she fought it and fought it…, but I watched her life leave her body – don’t ask – my beautiful angel gone in the flesh. At least she no longer suffers pain and discomfort.
