Misty Dawn LaRue Obituary

December 20, 1972 – October 23, 2024

Misty Dawn LaRue, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest on October 23, 2024, at the age of 51. Born on December 20, 1972, in Tulia, Texas, Misty grew up with a deep love for family, faith, and the beauty of the world around her.

Misty was a gifted hair stylist who found joy in making others feel beautiful. With determination and faith, she achieved her cosmetology license and spent a decade working successfully in a salon, despite facing the challenges of bipolar and schizoaffective disorder. Her resilience and unwavering trust in God inspired all who knew her.

A woman of many passions, Misty found peace at the ocean, often capturing the wonder of nature through her photography. She also expressed her creativity through painting and jewelry-making. She cherished moments with her family and friends and had a special love for animals, particularly cats.

Known for her fun, friendly, and compassionate nature, Misty had a smile that could light up any room. She was fiercely loyal and never judged those who came to her for advice. Instead, she would gently encourage them, often saying, “Now is the time to get right with the Lord.”

Misty is survived by her loving parents, Chuck and Linda Mayo; her brother Jeff Mayo (Beth); her twin sister Wendy Mayo; her cherished niece Shayne; and many members of the Hamner, Moore, and LaRue families. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Jeff and Daisy Hamner, her grandmother Lenore Mayo, her uncles Mike and Pat Hamner, and her birth father, H.D. LaRue.

A faithful Christian, Misty found strength and comfort in her relationship with God. Her family takes solace in knowing she is now cradled in His arms, free from pain and sorrow.

Memorial services will be held in Torrance, CA, and Modesto, CA, with dates to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, continuing Misty’s hope for breakthroughs in mental health.

Misty, your laughter, love, and light will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.

“God has you in His arms; we have you in our hearts.

Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.”
