Sanford Herbert Fagin, lovingly known as Sandy, passed away on May 11, 2025, in Sherman Oaks, California, at the age of 80. Born on June 23, 1944, in New Britain, Connecticut, Sandy lived a life filled with good music, better people, and a deep love of both learning and sharing that learning with others.
From spinning records as a rock and roll DJ in New York to thriving as a real estate broker, Sandy was a man of many talents and wide-ranging interests. He was a devoted sports fan, an enthusiastic lover of Italian food, and, above all, a man who cherished time spent with his family.
Sandy proudly served his country as an Army veteran, spent time teaching the next generation of broadcasters, helped organize music festivals, and later turned his gaze upward and inward—sharing his love of astrology. He loved celebrating new musicians and having passionate conversations on air or on his podcasts.
As a young man he got to meet one of his idols, Jackie Robinson, and interviewed him…he later became Radio Personality of the Year and went on to change the skyline of New York City by moving New York Magazine.
His magnetic smile, generous heart, and unmistakable spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his youngest sister Jacqui, his beloved son Ariel, and his treasured grandson Lucas. He was deeply loved throughout his life by several soulmates and dear friends, including Rosemary “Crystal” Star, Pam Witze, and Cheryl King, with whom he remained close through the years.
Fitting to his adventurous soul, Sandy’s final wish was to be cremated so he could continue to travel the world and rest in the embrace of nature. He will be deeply missed—and joyfully remembered. May his memory be a blessing.
